Google's data centre protected by new intumescent paint

For Google's latest project in Saint-Ghislain, a conscious decision was made to start using a new generation of fast-curing fire paint, Firetex FX6002, for 120 minutes protection.

Google has been investing in the Saint-Ghislain site near Mons for 11 years. Recently it has started to finish its newest data centre. For the structural protection of the steel, full use was made of Firetex FX6002. Conventional 1k solutions were too expensive because they were too slow and had too little resistance to weathering and transport damage.

Curing time reduced to a minimum

Firetex FX6002 is a multi-component intumescent coating with a European ETA certificate that cures up to 10 times faster than conventional 1k paints. Per spray application, up to 5 times more paint can be applied. As a result, the lead time for application and curing was reduced to a minimum for this project. Because of the fast curing, the transport and construction damage on the site was reduced to a minimum. Also, the steel on site was immediately resistant to weather conditions during the construction phase. More speed and less cost in all, no doubt this will be the future market standard of fire protection for steel. The reference list already includes dozens of projects at home and abroad. Aalterpaint only works with certified contractors for this product.
