Station of Gent St Pieters
The Station of Gent St Pieters was renovated in an impressive way. A new three-dimensional design makes for very short walking distance between the different means of public transport for the more than 90,000 travellers.
Our approach
This new, modern design mainly consists of large steel and glass structures that beautifully fit in with the existing historical basis. During the building process, a problem with applied coatings from several other manufacturers had arisen. Aalterpaint was asked to specify the anti-corrosive and fire-resistant systems again, while taking their existing condition into account. In cooperation with a specialised application firm, different methods for removing old layers of paint were tested. Next, new paint systems were applied to this substrate in test areas. These areas were subjected to various extensive adhesion tests. Finally, together with the adviser of the client and the applicator-client, a decision on the new systems to be applied was reached.
Result
During the summer months, the project was executed in accordance with the specification on a step-by-step basis. The necessary support was provided on site during several consultation meetings. All parts were finished in time and successfully completed. Once again, a project of national standing was furnished with Aalterpaint coatings!
